GROWLER faQ

What is a growler?

A growler is commonly known in the microbrewery scene as a 64 or 32 ounce glass (in our case, porcelain) container used for take-home beer. The term dates back to the late 1800s when fresh beer was carried home from the local pub in a small, galvanized pail. It is rumored the initial term came about when the beer sloshed around in the pail, it created a rumbling sound as the CO2 escaped through the lid.

Why should I buy a ceramic vs glass growler?

If supporting local artists isn't enough, here are a few other reasons:

1) Porcelain is opaque whereas glass is clear. A ceramic growler protects your beer from the light = no 'skunky' beer!

2) Ceramics are a natural insulator and will keep your beer colder, longer.

3) Wide-mouth flip top lids are equipped with a rubber gasket, locking in the freshness. You won't find that with a screw top lid used on glass growlers.

How long will my beer stay fresh?

5-7 days when immediately sealed after filling and placed in the fridge. It can also vary depending on the beer.

How long will my beer stay cold?

2-3 hours after taken out of the fridge. It is suggested to freeze your growler before filling it; however, it must be completely dry before freezing.

How do I clean my growler?

Rinse the growler with hot water after use. Next, use a mild soap and more hot water to soak for a minimum of 15 minutes. Lastly, rinse until clear (not soapy) water runs out. Note: It may be necessary to use a bottle brush at times.

Can my growler be filled with other liquids?

Yes! Our growlers are perfect for beer, wine, tea, komucha, cider, water or any other kinds of liquid.

Note: It is not recommended as a conditioning bottle.

Can I use your growler for conditioning?

No! It has not been tested for conditioning. Please condition at your own risk.

Do I need the Surgeon's General Warning label?

Yes. Each growler purchase comes with a Surgeon's General Warning label sticker.
